Car Rental terms & conditions | Rent A Car Athens

1. RENTAL AGREEMENT
All reservations are made based on the vehicle category, not for a specific model. In case of non-availability of a vehicle in the category pre-selected by the customer, always with reference to a confirmed reservation, Rooted reserves the right to provide to the customer a higher category car.
By renting a vehicle from ROOTED RENT CARS MONOPROSOPI IKE (“Company”), the renter (“Customer”) agrees to the terms outlined in this agreement.

2. VEHICLE USE
-Rooted cars are covered by 24hours road assistance. Please ask for Road assistance’s contact details at the pick up.
Where replacement of the vehicle deemed as necessary, up to 24 hours are required for areas in the Mainland, while for any other area within the Greek territory, a period of up to 72 hours is required.
If it is proven in the end that the replacement of the vehicle is not deemed necessary, then the lessee will be charged with transportation cost.
-The vehicle is permitted to be used only in asphalt road network by persons who are holders of a legal and recognized car driving license (Renters must have 1 year the driving license at least). The vehicle is not permitted to be driven off-road (except the off-road vehicles).

The vehicle may only be driven by the Customer or additional drivers listed in the contract.
The vehicle must not be used for racing, off-road driving, towing, or illegal activities.
The vehicle may not leave the borders of Greece.
Transporting the vehicle by ferry is only permitted with prior written approval.
An Additional Driver Fee (ADD) applies for any extra drivers listed in the contract.
A Young Driver Fee (YDF) applies for renters under 21 years age.
A Senior Driver Fee (SDF) applies for renters above a 75 years age.

3. RENTAL PERIOD, PICK-UP & RETURN

The rental period is as stated in the contract. Extensions require prior approval.
The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as at pick-up; otherwise, a Fuel Charge (FUE) and Refueling Service Charge (RSC) will apply.
Late returns exceeding 45 minutes will be charged an additional rental day (Late Return Charge – LRC).
Vehicles dropped off at a different location than the pickup location will incur a One Way Rental Charge (ONE).
A Collection Charge (COL) and Delivery Charge (DEL) apply depending on your location if the vehicle is collected or delivered outside a Company station. If the rental period exceeds 10 days, the Collection Charge (COL) and Delivery Charge (DEL) will not be applied.
Out-of-hours pick-up or return will incur an Out of Hours Charge (OOH) automatically.
If a specific vehicle model is guaranteed as part of the rental agreement, a Model Guarantee Charge (MGC) applies.

-Vehicle Return Policy
The rented vehicle must be returned exclusively to an authorized Rooted Rent A Car representative at the agreed location and time. The renter is responsible for ensuring direct handover to a staff member with valid company identification.

If the vehicle is left unattended or returned without confirmation by a Rooted employee, the renter shall be held fully liable for any loss, theft, or damage until the vehicle is officially received.

In such cases, Rooted reserves the right to:

Impose a penalty of up to the full replacement value of the vehicle, depending on damage, loss, or recovery status.

Initiate legal action to recover damages, losses, or violations under local and European law.

4. MILEAGE POLICY

Unlimited mileage applies to all vehicle categories, except Special X, which is subject to mileage limits and additional charges.
Rentals of 1-2 days: 200 km per day included. Additional mileage incurs an Additional Mileage Charge (MIL).
Rentals of 2+ days: Unlimited mileage.
Additional unlimited mileage option available for 1-2 day rentals at an extra charge.

5. PAYMENT & DEPOSIT

Full payment is required before vehicle pick-up.
No deposit is required for all the categories of vehicle except the special (X) category.
Pre-approval may be processed using your debit card.
Discounts applied are listed under Rental Discount (DSC).
All charges are subject to Value Added Tax (VAT) and Municipal Tax (LCT).

6. CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellations made at least 48 hours before pick-up receive a full refund.
Cancellations within 48 hours of pick-up result in forfeiture 50% of the rental price.
No refund is given if the vehicle is not picked up without prior cancellation.

7. INSURANCE & LIABILITY
The vehicle is insured with Third-Party Liability coverage. The renter can obtain detailed information regarding liability for any vehicle damage by visiting the ROOTED RENT CARS website or consulting a ROOTED RENT CARS representative. Amounts may have changes per category.
The renter is fully released of the liability for any car damage:
CDW (Collision Damage Waiver): Limits Customer liability to a deductible amount.
over 600€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the A,B,C,GM,GM3 categories
over 700€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the C1C,C2C,C2CM,D,DD,DDD,DX,G2,G2X,K categories
over 850€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the F7,FAD,FFD,FR1,G4,GD,GQ,H1,J1,K2,K2F,K2MAN categories
over 1150€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the F1,F2D,F3D,FDFF1,FFL,FFO,FR2,J4,J4H,J5,J7 categories
over 1400€ +VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the E-JL,L1 categories
over 1900€ +VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the JL,J3,L3,X categories
Damages to wheels, the underside, interior and glass are not covered under this type of insurance. The renter must purchase additional WUG (Wheels, Underside, Glass) coverage for protection against such damages.

Additional insurance options:
SCDW (Super Collision Damage Waiver): Further reduces the deductible.
The renter is fully released of the liability for any car damage:

over 250€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 5€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories A,B,C,GM,GM3
over 300€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 5€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories C1C,C2C,C2CM,D,DD,DDD,DX,G2,G2X,K
over 375€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 5€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories F7,FAD,FFD,FR1,G4,GD,GQ,H1,J1,K2,K2F,K2MAN
over 525€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 7€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories F1,F2D,F3D,FDFF1,FFL,FFO,FR2,J4,J4H,J5,J7
over 650€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 12€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories E-JL,L1

FDW (Full Damage Waiver): Eliminates liability for damages if treated appropriately all the terms and conditions.
10€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories A,B,C,GM,GM3
12€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories C1C,C2C,C2CM,D,DD,DDD,DX,G2,G2X,K
14€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories F7,FAD,FFD,FR1,G4,GD,GQ,H1,J1,K2,K2F,K2MAN

No Insurance Covers Damages to Interior, Glass, Underneath and tyres.

Damage to Convertible Soft Top and entire interior of the vehicle is not covered and will be paid in full by the customer.

-PAI – Personal Accident Insurance: The renter is covered by a “Driver’s Insurance” (PAI)
Maximum amount of insurance compensation payable: 4,000 Euros.

TP (Theft Protection): Covers theft with conditions.
The renter is fully exempt from liability for any damage to the vehicle’s tires, underside, and glass only if they accept and sign the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pay the following daily fees:

€9/day for categories C1C, C2C, C2CM, D, DD, DDD, DX, G2, G2X, K
€10/day for categories F7, FAD, FFD, FR1, G4, GD, GQ, H1, J1, K2, K2F, K2MAN
€12/day for categories F1, F2D, F3D, FDFF1, FFL, FFO, FR2, J4, J4H, J5, J7
€25/day for categories E-JL, L1
€50/day for categories JL, J3, L3,X
This coverage is valid only if the renter refrains from parking or leaving the rented vehicle in unlit areas or locations deemed unsafe. Additionally, the renter must comply with all contractual obligations and adhere to the rental terms.
WUG (Wheels, Underside, Glass): Covers damages to tires, glass, and the underside.
The renter is fully exempt from liability for any damage to the vehicle’s tires, underside, and glass only if they accept and sign the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pay the following daily fees:
€7/day for categories A, B, C, GM, GM3
€9/day for categories C1C, C2C, C2CM, D, DD, DDD, DX, G2, G2X, K
€10/day for categories F7, FAD, FFD, FR1, G4, GD, GQ, H1, J1, K2, K2F, K2MAN
€12/day for categories F1, F2D, F3D, FDFF1, FFL, FFO, FR2, J4, J4H, J5, J7
€25/day for categories E-JL, L1
€50/day for categories JL, J3, L3,X
This coverage applies only when the renter complies with all contractual obligations and does not violate the rental terms.

Insurance Limits:
Vehicles are insured against third parties (excluding the driver) for death and bodily injury up to €1,250,000 per accident and for material damages to third parties (excluding the rented vehicle) up to €1,250,000.
If these limits are modified, the minimum limits established by applicable Greek legislation shall always apply. Any damages exceeding the insurance coverage limits or those not included in the policy shall be the sole responsibility of the renter.

Any of the insurances do not cover negligence, improper use, lost keys, or incorrect fuel usage.
In case of damage to the vehicle, a Damage Charge (DMG) and Damage Admin Charge (DAC) will apply depending on the damage.
If an accident will take place outside of the borders of Attiki e.x in an island , customer/renter will be asked to pay for, the transportation of the car to the check out station (where customer picked up the vehicle), also for the transportation of the replacement car to the location of the renter/renter.

8. FINES & ADMINISTRATIVE CHARGES

The Customer is responsible for all traffic fines and administrative fees.
The Company reserves the right to charge the Customer’s credit card or debit card for any outstanding fines.
A Ticket Charge (TICC) and Ticket Admin Charge (TICAC) apply for processing any issued fines.
Toll expenses incurred during the rental period are subject to Toll Charge (TOLC) and Toll Admin Charge (TOLAC).

9. ACCIDENTS, DAMAGE & THEFT

The Customer must notify the Company and authorities immediately in case of an accident, theft, or damage.
A damage report must be completed for insurance to be valid.
In case of theft due to negligence, the Customer is fully liable.

10. RESTRICTIONS

The above terms also apply in case of replacement of the originally rented vehicle or when the rental is extended.
The vehicle must be used only on paved roads.
It is prohibited to transport hazardous goods or overload the vehicle.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden and may be charged extra.

11. OTHER CHARGES

If an upgrade is requested, an Upgrade Charge (UC) applies.
All transactions are subject to a Rounding Fee (RND) where applicable.

12. JURISDICTION & GOVERNING LAW

This agreement is governed by Greek and European law.
Any disputes will be settled in the courts of Athens.

13. ACCEPTANCE
By signing the rental agreement the Customer agrees to these terms and conditions.
